Number 2 Canyon Project

Number 2 Canyon located in Wenatchee is widely known as a tremendous outdoor recreation destination. It has developed into one of the premiere mountain biking destinations in the State of Washington, attracting recreationalists from all over the Pacific Northwest. Known as one of the primary access points for outdoor recreation in the valley for mountain bikers, hikers, runners, motorcycle riders, and equestrians. On any given weekend, 80-100 vehicles are parked along the road near the trailhead due to lack of suitable parking lots. Number 2 Canyon lacks any capital improvements; extremely limited parking, minimal signage at the parking lot and on the trails, and no restrooms. The lack of infrastructure is impeding the area from hosting more events and the sustainability of the area.

TREAD has an ongoing relationship with the United States Forest Service (USFS) which owns and manages Number 2 Canyon as well as the organizations which put on events including races and other events. TREAD also has a Challenge Cost Share Agreement with the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest. The relationships is leveraged with the USFS and the County to assist TREAD’s partner organizations with access, permits, and marketing of their events.

In conjunction with the Central chapter of Evergreen Mountain Bike Alliance, TREAD has procured funding to assist with infrastructure improvements including the addition of trail signage, and expanding the parking lot.
